Adjudicator
The adjudicator for Festival 2005 is Jane Carnwath . Ms. Carnwath
has been involved in many aspects of theatre for a number of years.
She has an MFA from York University and was Professor of Acting, Music Theatre
Program at Sheridan College for ten years, and Program Director for the Alumnae
Theatre in Toronto for several years. Her directing credits include:
Between The Lines, Alumnae New Ideas Festival; Jennie’s Story, Sheridan Music
Theatre; The Gut Girls, Alumnae Theatre; and The Children's Hour, Theatre
Erindale. She has worked with community theatre groups as a production
consultant and acting instructor, as well as teaching a directing course at
Theatre Ontario Summer Courses. Jane has adjudicated regional festivals
across the province, and the Theatre Saskatchewan Festival. Playwrights
Friday afternoon will feature readings by Carl Cashin. Born
on "The Rock" (Newfoundland) and raised in Toronto, Carl Cashin abandoned
corporate life in 1976 to open a summer resort on the Trent-Severn Waterway,
near the town of Stirling, Ontario. Life at the resort provided the
background for twenty-one published anecdotes dealing with "life in a campground"
entitled The Janitor. His love of theatre was kindled while working
backstage at the Belleville Theatre Guild on productions of Angel Street,
Harvey, and The Stone Angel, where lighting, sound and stage management were
his main focus. Bitten, he wrote Pathways and Yesterday's Hero, both
one-act plays which won several awards and praise at the Eastern Ontario Drama
League Festival. Mail-Order Annie , Carl's first full-length play,
placed first in Theatre BC's 13th Annual National Playwriting Competition,
and reflects his love of history and the imprint it leaves on us all. |
